I Heard The Gilbert GTR4000 Is The Best Rugby Training Ball, Is This True?
I would honestly say, this is Gilbert’s Highest Quality GTR4000 rugby training ball and is one of the best. If not the best available. However it is priced slightly on the high side. So you need to work out for yourself if it is the best value for money. The GTR4000 balls have the new Tri-Grip as a result it is claimed to give a larger surface area for players to grip. It is also suggested this type of grip lasts longer too. I haven’t been able to prove or dis-prove this theory so will go along with it.
What Colours And Sizes Are The Gilbert GTR4000 Training Balls Available in?
The Gilbert GTR4000 balls are available in a good choice of colours, in fcat there were 6 colourways at last count. There are 4 sizes available too – Size 3, 4, 5 and in a transition 4.5 size. The colours the GTR4000 balls are available in are as follows
- Black/White – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Navy/White – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Red/White – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Sky/White – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Fluoro – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Blue – Size 4.5 (transition)
They are constructed with a 3 ply poly-cotton and cotton laminate which is then applied to a rubber surface. This then has the Tri-Grip moulded onto the rubber surface in a high heat press (fascinating process if you get the chance to view in person). The balls are hand stitched and have a Hydratec surface, so that it repels more of the water, improving the level of grip.
It should be noted that the size 5 GTR4000 ball is more expensive than the size 3 and 4 models. The prices quoted here are for the size 5 balls.
